Something to hold onto

I have a little scrap of paper with my daughter's first attempts at writing her name. I also have a stack of papers from her that just say "MOM." I will never throw them away. The same goes for the little notes my mom leaves me. They aren't fancy, just a regular pen and a Post-it note. But somehow they feel too important to throw away. Why is it that a text message that says the exact same thing can fade away into the scroll of a hundred other texts? A handwritten note is different. Seeing words written on a page in someone's actual hand can stop me in my tracks, years later. It's physical evidence that a real person sat somewhere and moved a pen across the page because they were thinking of you. The pressure of the letters, the way they crossed a T or looped an L... that's not a font. It's the closest thing we have to a hand reaching across time to touch someone else's. It only exists because someone slowed down long enough to create it. Maybe one day someone will find a card you wrote, or a handwritten recipe, or a grocery list. And they'll hold onto it. Not because of the words... Because it was yours. 💕 Just wanted to share this while it was on mind, |

Have you ever started addressing an envelope, only to realize your letters are slowly drifting downhill?
