Trick for addressing envelopes

Have you ever started addressing an envelope, only to realize your letters are slowly drifting downhill?

You could use a ruler and pencil to draw guidelines, but I have a much quicker trick:

Use a laser level!

I used one today while addressing a whole stack of envelopes for students who joined Calligraphy Together, and it saved me 1-2 hours.

The level projects a straight line across the envelope, giving you a temporary guideline to write on.

Tip: Put a sheet of lined paper underneath your envelope. Line up the laser with the printed lines as you move it down the envelope. This helps make sure each line of your address is not only straight, but parallel too.

One word of warning: Don’t use a laser that’s too bright! I learned this from experience... 😅

The first one I bought was so bright that I couldn’t comfortably use it for more than a few seconds at a time.

The second one I tried was the perfect brightness, and it’s the one I still use today. You can find it on Amazon here with our affiliate link: Laser level

Hope this little trick saves you some time the next time you’re addressing envelopes!

P.S. I have three stickers left that I would love to mail out this weekend. So, the next 3 people who join Calligraphy Together will get one in the mail (with your name on envelope, of course!)

I have a little scrap of paper with my daughter's first attempts at writing her name. I also have a stack of papers from her that just say "MOM." I will never throw them away. The same goes for the little notes my mom leaves me. They aren't fancy, just a regular pen and a Post-it note. But somehow they feel too important to throw away. Why is it that a text message that says the exact same thing can fade away into the scroll of a hundred other texts? A handwritten note is different. Seeing...
